St. Cibrão / Douro Valley, Portugal

"Linha do Douro" is a railway track in northern Portugal that for the greater part of its route runs close to the Douro River, offering extremely dramatic scenic views of the river and valley. Originally its total length from west to east was over 200kms/124mis, going from the city of Oporto to the Spanish border. It was shortened (about 28km/17mi) in 1984 due to the closure of the section from Pocinho to the border. Before closing it allowed trains to come and go from the city of Salamanca (Spain). This picture is one of my favourites and it shows a little bit of the abandoned railway track at the St. Cibrão farm standing in half shadow and half sunlight.
