The Pic du Midi de Bigorre or simply Pic du Midi (altitude 2,877m (9,439ft)) is a mountain in the French Pyrenees famous for its astronomical observatory.
Construction began in 1878 under the auspices of the Société Ramond and was handled later (1882) to the French state. Open to the public in 2000, the Pic du Midi was classified in 2003 as a natural national under the beauty of its landscape. It is indeed in this magical place that for nearly 140 years, researchers and technicians of space observe, photograph and decode the sky and all its planets most distant galaxies.
